Today we visited the Fish Eye Underwater Observatory. We had read about this and also drove past it on our island tour, so we were excited to check it out. The best way to describe this place is a natural aquarium in the middle of the ocean. It’s located in the village of Piti on the western coast of Guam. The palm tree lined beach surrounding the observatory was beautiful!

There is a long, roughly quarter mile pier leading out to the observatory with beautiful turquoise water all around. Parts of the walkway were a little shaky and worn out, but not unsafe.

At the end of the pier is a round two-level structure. The upper circular deck gives you an expansive view of the ocean. You then go inside and a long staircase winds down 10 meters to the viewing room. You are surrounded by 24 windows that give you a 360 degree view directly into the coral reef.

We saw an abundance of different fish and the amazing expanse of the coral reef ecosystem. Debby said this was her kind of snorkeling!

We ended our day with a walk on our local beach, taking in another fantastic sunset. There were locals participating in what looked like rowing practice. It was remarkably calming to watch them glide across the water in perfect synchrony.
