A common theme while completing tasks the past 6 months has been that everything takes longer than expected. Dave and I have completed numerous home projects over the years. When I ask him how long he thinks a project will take, I’ve learned it’s best to double the amount. In daily life I am typically extremely good at managing my time. However, each task lately seems to take just a little extra time.
Hidden Steps
In our Gap Year Preparations post I mentioned that to obtain an international drivers license you just simply apply. It’s true, there is an application. But you also need passport photos. You also have to allot time to mail in the forms or visit your local AAA to have everything processed.
We will be using a virtual mailbox to get our mail during the year. Again, you just have to go online and purchase this. However, you also have to get an official form notarized to allow someone else to open your mail.
Unfinished Work
Then there are the tasks that really have no true completion. These are the tasks which have endless options. I can’t tell you how many hours I have spent deciding what to take, and what to pack it in.
A Year in Flux
I wonder how time will feel while we are gone? Will time speed up or slow down? We’ve had people say that a year will fly by. Others comment that we have no idea how long a year can last. Many countries in the world treat time differently. Will we adapt and change, or cling to the routines we have at home? I guess time will tell.
