Our first week in Portugal has been one of rest and recovery. After the grueling trip to get here, Dave and I both got sick. Luckily our worst days were staggered, so we took turns getting groceries and taking care of the day to day things in life. We’ve both said multiple times, this is a pretty nice place to be sick. If we were back in Manila, we might be losing our minds right about now.
Cobblestones and Quiet Days
Alexis and I spent one morning exploring just the two of us. We had fun walking around and taking in all the colorful buildings. I read an article recently that said Lisbon is one of the most colorful cities in the world. I don’t know how accurate the source is, but it’s definitely the most colorful city I’ve ever seen and we haven’t even explored outside of our neighborhood yet.

We stumbled upon a beautiful lookout spot and a woman harassed each of us into buying a bracelet. I guess we still look (or sound) like tourists. The views were stunning!

Take note of how bundled up I am compared to Alexis. I’d like to blame it on the fact that I was getting sick, but the reality is I’m just always cold!

The Beautiful Ordinary and School With A View
As we walk around the streets of our neighborhood, I love how even the ordinary things look beautiful. This is the outside of our grocery store. Alexis said it reminds her of a library.

The kids both started projects for school this week related to Portugal. Braxton is writing a paper about the legend of The Rooster of Barcelo and Alexis is working on a presentation about how the Portuguese language has spread to different parts of the world. They have great natural lighting while they do school and the view from their room is like a postcard.

I’m hoping we feel good enough for Field Trip Friday this week. There’s so many places we want to explore! We have less than 30 days of school left, which is hard to believe. I was so worried about how homeschooling would go before our year started, and now it just feels like a natural part of our day.

I’m always the one bundled up while everyone else is in t-shirts…I feel that deeply! Also love Alexis’s outfit so much, so sophisticated and European!
Also I love so much about this post: the colors, the lighting, the postcard window, and you wrapping up a year of homeschool, you did it!
