Our days lately have been a mix of school, long walks along the cobblestone sidewalks of our neighborhood, and a few other outings. The kids finished their research projects on Portugal and are moving on to an end of year project that will cover our adventures for the entire year. Alexis and I visited the Feira da Ladra (Lisbon’s flea market) and took in the views of the beautiful Panteão Nacional. Today we celebrated our 300th day of travel with a trip back to the Time Out Market.
Feira da Ladra and Panteão Nacional
While Dave and I were on a walk last weekend, we stumbled upon what looked like a giant garage sale. I did some research when we got home and found out that it is the Feira da Ladra, which is Lisbon’s famous flea market. It translates to “Thieves Market” and dates back all the way to 1272. It happens every Tuesday and Saturday. After school on Tuesday, Alexis and I went to check it out. We had a lot of fun looking at all the unique and random things. We will definitely go back again before we leave.

The flea market sits right behind the Panteão Nacional, so we stopped to admire it’s beauty on our way home. The Panteão Nacional was originally built as a church, but at some point the Portuguese government repurposed it to a mausoleum. It is a national mausoleum where some of the most important figures in Portuguese history are laid to rest. It is such a beautiful building! You can pay to go inside, and we might do that before we leave, but this time we just enjoyed the outside.

Date Night and 300 Days of Travel
Dave and I enjoyed an impromptu date night this week. We needed some space from the kids (and they probably needed some space from us too). We had drinks outside and enjoyed this delicious charcuterie board.

Today marks our 300th day of travel! To celebrate we made the long walk back to the Time Out Market for ice cream and dinner. We had the most delicious gelato and it wasn’t nearly as crowded this time around.

We ended up sitting next to a couple from Canada and talked to them for over an hour. They were extremely kind people, and we enjoyed swapping travel stories. It was perfect timing, as Alexis has expressed recently that she is “dying to have other people to talk to”. Our extrovert is ready for some interaction outside of her family. Ha! She had the biggest smile on her face as we left. I love it when the universe gives you exactly what you need.
