A couple days ago we hiked to a free local spot here in Jaco called El Miro. El Miro translates to ‘He Looked’. The back story of this location is a bit of a mystery. Some say it was a hotel, some say a mansion. Regardless, the project was never finished and has since become a place that local street artists use as their canvas. The common theory is that the owner passed away during construction, leaving the structure unfinished and it has slowly been reclaimed by nature. At the top you get a stunning expansive view of Jaco beach. The whole experience was very cool!
Monkeys in the Trees and Art Among the Vines
The hike is fairly short, but steep. As we began the ascent there were monkeys swinging from the trees, which was fun to see! The hike is through some dense rainforest at the beginning, and then glimpses of structures and artwork start to appear.

Inspired and Unscripted
A local told us at the top that the artwork is constantly changing. There are no rules about what stays or goes. Local artists just come up whenever they are inspired and make their mark. The structure was very cool and was a work of art all its own. Dave and Alexis enjoyed exploring the basement rooms and speculating about ghosts living there.

The View
The view at the top is one of the many reasons people go here. It did not disappoint!

After exploring all the artwork, we made our way back down and walked the 3 miles home. This was a unique place. Like El Salto in La Fortuna, we enjoyed exploring a free local spot.

Beautiful! I love that idea about artists just praising whenever and wherever! The structure reminds me of the broken down castle in Jungle Book where King Louie lives!
And the hits just keep on coming!!!😁👍🏻😎. The word awesome keeps coming to my mind. Thanks for sharing your journey!!!💕
It was very awesome!
That’s so cool! It’s amazing that it just became a spot for the people. I couldn’t help thinking that in America some rich person would’ve snatched it up and made it their own.
That artwork whenever and whatever is so neat! I would have the hardest time covering up someone’s art though!! (If I were an artist). That view is stunning!
