Not Goodbye, Just See you Later
We have had a lot of goodbye’s over the last few weeks. We went to see Dave’s mom for the weekend and relished in her delicious cooking. Our cul-de-sac had a goodbye BBQ. We gathered with our neighbors and the kids ran and played well into the night. The kids will miss all the impromptu playing that happens so often! We had family visit from the mountains and enjoyed time with cousins, aunts, uncles, and grandmas. There were pool dates, sleepovers and walking dates with our most special friends! Although we said goodbye to all these people we love, it was truly just farewell. We will see them again in a year.
Letting Go of a Car, Holding on to the Memories
One goodbye that was harder than I expected was our beloved Corolla. It has been an amazing car. It has a manual transmission and crank windows. A neighbor kid once referred to it as a history lesson. To me, it has been the perfect symbol of simplicity. Dave bought the Corolla brand new in 2003 right before we started dating. I remember thinking it was the best car ever, and this is where our frugal life together began.
It has a huge dent in one side and extensive hail damage. The AC squeaks like there’s a mouse in it. The clock display no longer works and I would have been beyond embarrassed to ride in it as a teenager. But man, I loved that car! Goodbye Corolla. You will be missed!
