Our final days in Japan have been pretty low-key as we get ready to move on to a new country. The kids have been working hard at school. Alexis completed a paper about WWII from the Japanese perspective and Braxton just finished up a paper about cockroaches. Braxton is bummed he doesn’t get a fall break like his friends back in Colorado, but we are saving those days off for other occasions.
Date Night in Shinsekai
Dave and I went on one last date night in the Shinsekai area. We toasted our time in Japan with some sake as we sat on a patio watching the sea of people going by. Japan at night is one of my favorite things about this country and this area was fun and lively.

Okonomiyaki and Neighborhood Walks
We have been enjoying the slightly cooler weather and taking a lot of walks around our Osaka neighborhood. We discovered a little food stall on the shopping street in our neighborhood that sells okonomiyaki. They have a variety of add-ins and it’s extremely cheap. The base variety without any add-ins is 130 yen (just under $1).

I enjoy looking at all the various houses and I appreciate their diverse architecture. I don’t enjoy walking in our neighborhood though and I wouldn’t come back to this exact area again if we returned to Osaka. We got really spoiled walking along the Sumida river in Tokyo. Here, we are often required to walk single file to make room for people, bikes or cars.

Homesickness and Our Next Adventure
The kids and I have been experiencing some homesickness the last couple days. There’s a certain level of anxiety that comes with moving on to a new location, which I think is a contributing factor. We are looking forward to Guam though, as we always love the beach! I’m also looking forward to an English speaking country, a dryer for our clothes, and hopefully some familiar food.
