Braxton turned 11 yesterday! He’s always been pretty low key when it comes to his birthday. He wants pumpkin pie instead of cake, does not want us to sing to him, and requested a homemade lunch even though we gave him the option to go out. We spent the morning at the beach snorkeling, playing football, and enjoying the sun!

Sadly, our Airbnb does not have the supplies to make a homemade pumpkin pie, so we bought mini pumpkin pie bites. I always really enjoy making their birthday dessert, so this was a little sad for me, but the kids didn’t complain.

Celebrating Halloween, Guam Style
I had several people ask me if they celebrate Halloween here, and the answer is yes! There were numerous events happening around the island this week and we saw a lot of fun decorations. There were also Halloween decorations in Japan before we left. I think Halloween is celebrated just about everywhere!
Alexis gets full credit for our costumes this year. If it were up to Dave and I we would have gone as ‘World Travelers’ and carried around our backpacks. Alexis embraced her naturally long, blonde hair and we had a Barbie theme. We found everything for our costumes at the local Salvation Army and Ross. Here we are as Midlife Ken, Raquelle, Barbie, and Ken. The kids really nailed their costumes!

We celebrated Halloween like the locals here on Guam, which means trick or treating at the Micronesian Mall. We weren’t really sure what to expect, but we had a great time! There was a DJ playing fantastic music and there were so many people there. It was fun checking out everyone’s costumes and I loved the energy! Alexis asked me nicely to please stop dancing around. I guess we have officially reached the age at which I embarrass her. Ha!

This event runs very smoothly. Promptly at 6pm lines start to form and the kids trick or treat each store. It’s definitely not what the kids are used to back at home. In Colorado they run from house to house in the dark and get a ridiculous amount of candy – often with full size candy bars. Here they got one piece of candy at each store and at times the line moved very slowly. They decided not to visit every store. Alexis got to experience the pain that is fashionable shoes. As we walked out she leaned on Debby for support.

They did the traditional sorting of candy when we got home. There was a ridiculous amount of Tootsie rolls and Dum-Dum suckers.

We all enjoyed celebrating Halloween in a different way this year. The kids definitely missed their friends, but I was proud of them for making the most of it and still having fun. It definitely helped having Grandma here!

“Stop dancing around” 🤣 sometimes it’s so hard when there is good music!! Sorry kids, lol!
So glad you made the best of it and your costumes are so fun! Wish we could share some of the ridiculous amount of candy we got with you guys. 🫣
I love the costume idea and execution! Well done everyone!!! The trick or treating experience is super interesting, what a change!
I cannot believe what Alexis was able to find for your costumes! Perfect look and fit! How was that possible?!
Trick or treating in a mall is definitely different but cool thing to experience. Yeah, the amount of candy we get here is ridiculous. Somebody please stop the madness, lol!
