Last night we went to the Nakamise Shopping Street, which was the local place Alexis picked for her school project. She did all the research about what to expect and successfully navigated getting us there on her own. The majority of the walk there was along the Sumida river and took us about 45 minutes. This place was super cool!
A Grand Entrance
This is a very popular tourist spot. Although, it looked crowded when we arrived, it didn’t feel bad once you entered the street and starting shopping around. There were a lot of locals as well as tourists wearing traditional kimonos as they shopped. Apparently, this is a popular thing to do while in Japan.

The boys weren’t interested in shopping, so they found a park close by where Braxton could play while Alexis and I shopped. Alexis got to have some of the local treats she’s been very excited about. She tried dango for the first time and also enjoyed a bubble tea.

Delicious Dinner and Break From the Heat
After shopping we all met back up for dinner. The options of places to eat were endless and it’s always hard to pick. We all enjoyed the air conditioning while we ate. It is still extremely hot in Tokyo and the humidity was high today. Alexis and I shared a couple appetizers of edamame and fried squid. Braxton got fried rice and Dave enjoyed some delicious ramen.

Senso-Ji Temple and Fortune Telling
The Senso-Ji Temple was on my list of places I wanted to visit while here, and was surprised when it was so close to the place Alexis picked. It’s the oldest temple in Tokyo and it was stunning! The kids did the fortune-telling ritual called omikuji. You deposit 100 yen into an offering box and then shake a metal cylinder and a stick slides out. You match the number on the stick with the corresponding drawer and pull out your fortune slip. If it’s good you keep it, if it’s bad you tie it to a designated rack and leave the misfortune behind. Alexis got good luck and Braxton left his behind!

The Lights Leading Us Home
Alexis navigated us back home easily. It was a long walk, but the lights were beautiful! I never tire of the views at night here!
