We are approaching our last week here in South Africa. We have a few more places we want to explore, but have also enjoyed revisiting some of our favorites. This past weekend we explored Thesen Island, made a trip back to beautiful Buffalo Bay Beach, and had a surprise visitor in our kitchen sink.
Thesen Island
Thesen Island is a small harbour town within the Knysna Estuary. It was a short walk over a bridge from the Waterfront area, and is known for its boutique shops and great restaurants. It was a very cute area and we enjoyed walking around in the cool, cloudy weather.

We had lunch at a place called Tapas & Oysters. Knysna is famous for its oysters. The Knysna Oyster Festival (held annually in July) is world-renowned, but you can enjoy fresh oysters year-round.

Buffalo Bay Beach
On Sunday we soaked up the sunshine with a trip back to Buffalo Bay Beach. We walked for a long time along the expansive beach and enjoyed some relaxing/reading.

The kids climbed the sand hill again and Braxton had fun digging in the sand. There were local kids using their boogie boards to “sled” down the giant sand hill, which looked super fun.

We had lunch at the local restaurant there. We all shared a seafood platter and other various dishes. The prawns were my favorite. It was all delicious!

Another Surprise Kitchen Visitor
We had another surprise visitor in our kitchen this weekend. This time it was a scorpion! We recently saw one of these on our patio, but I did not anticipate seeing one inside.

Luckily, as far as scorpions go, this one is only mildly venomous and not considered dangerous. Regardless, it still freaked me out and we are all checking inside our shoes now before we put them on. As Alexis often says, “never a dull moment on gap year”!
