Our last week here in South Africa has been a mix of relaxing, finishing up school assignments, and a little more exploring. We spent a day at the coastal town of Plettenberg Bay, took in a sunset at Coney Glen Beach, and enjoyed a rainy Friday. Braxton finished up a research paper on the Cape Buffalo, Alexis finished her paper on Apartheid, and both kids have been working on learning all the countries in Africa. Friday was the first rainy day we’ve had here, which was perfect for relaxing and reading. I am currently re-reading Trevor Noah’s memoir “Born A Crime: Stories From A South African Childhood”. If you’ve never read it, I recommend it. Not only is it full of information about the history of Apartheid, it’s also hilarious!
A Day Trip to Plettenberg Bay
Plettenberg Bay (called Plett by the locals) is about 45 minutes east of our condo. It’s an upscale beach town, that is popular among tourists. It has several popular beaches that are said to be some of the most beautiful along the Garden Route. We parked at Central Beach, then walked up a steep winding hill to check out the town.

As we were walking around the town, we were reminded that walking around and shopping is not really our thing. We went into a few of the overpriced stores, but we didn’t stay very long.

We made our way back down the winding hill, and enjoyed another beautiful beach here in South Africa. There was a local guy making sand art which was fun to watch and the mountains in the distance were beautiful!

Sunset at the Beach
We’ve visited Coney Glen Beach too many times to count. This week we went for the sunset and it was stunning! We are all going to miss this rocky little paradise.

Preparing For Our Final Stretch
Yesterday we made one final trip to the beach and today we celebrated Easter with a yummy homemade brunch. Alexis and I were very excited to eat sweets again (we gave it up for lent). Tomorrow will be filled with the pre-travel preparations of laundry, eating weird meals of whatever is left in our refrigerator, and taking one final look over our travel checklist. Similar to our routine when we arrive somewhere new, our exit routine has become seamless and second nature as well.

Alexis looks like you in that first picture! I never think that, but something about her eyes and smile in that first one. So beautiful. She and Braxton have really grown so much, they both look older to me here.
Glad you could visit the beautiful rocky beach again, and hope the packing/traveling days went smoothly!
They have both grown a lot- in so many ways!
