We are closing out our last weekend here on Guam. We’ve all started to wrap our heads around moving on and are looking forward to new adventures. It always feels hard to enjoy a place towards the end. I want to be in the moment and absorb our last few days here, but my mind is preparing for the next stop.
Guam’s Dragon Boat Festival
Braxton and I went for a walk on the beach after school on Friday and stumbled upon the preparations for Guam’s 7th Annual Dragon Boat Festival. It’s always fun to discover something by accident. It was taking place this weekend and we went there Saturday morning to check it out. There were teams from Japan, Korea, Philippines and Guam. We watched for awhile, but it wasn’t too exciting. There were very few spectators, so this didn’t appear to be a huge event on Guam. We enjoyed seeing something culturally unique to the area though and the boats are very cool!

Tarzan Falls Hike: Muddy Trails, Stunning Views
Today we hiked to Tarzan Falls, which is one of Guam’s most popular waterfall hikes. The reviews said this was a moderately difficult hike and that the trail could be muddy after rain. It hasn’t rained too much lately, so we didn’t anticipate much mud. We were wrong! When we first started we tried to avoid the mud, but eventually just embraced it.

The trail got muddier as we descended towards the waterfall. There were some places that even had ropes to hang onto to prevent slipping.

We crossed a stream before the final descent to the waterfall. The surroundings were unbelievably lush and the waterfall stunning! Definitely worth the muddy trek to get there.

The kids enjoyed swimming in the pool at the bottom of the waterfall before we made the muddy hike back to the top.

The hike back up was so slippery that Dave and Alexis eventually gave up on their sandals and finished most of the hike barefoot. Alexis said she gave the hike a 10/10. It really was so much fun! When we got in the car to head home we were hot, tired, muddy and hungry. But we were also extremely happy! There’s something truly wonderful about time in nature.

Ahhh a barefoot hike in the mud! It sounds both wonderfully grounding and kind of frustrating 😆 what a beautiful hike to wrap up your time in Guam!
That is so beautiful! I was thinking Dave is brave hiking in flip flops. Mine would for sure get stuck or lost in the mud, lol. But barefoot is one way to tackle it! I love catching up on your adventures and love how much fun you had in Guam!
