We leave for Jaco tomorrow to begin the second stop on our adventure. La Fortuna has been a really amazing first location for our year long journey. When I asked everyone what their favorite memory was it was mixed bag. Dave and Alexis loved El Salto and my favorite was Mirador El Silencio. Braxton’s favorite was the night hike. Among the many excursions and adventures we’ve had here, there are also little things we will miss. The best memories are often the little things you take from a place. Here’s a few of our favorites.
The Sounds – A Pura Vida Soundtrack
There are so many sounds here. In our house in Colorado we occasionally hear traffic or the dogs barking from the doggy day care close by, but for the most part our neighborhood is extremely quiet. I’ve mentioned before that the town we are in is extremely small. Dave and I often comment on how much it reminds us of the small town we grew up in. I grew up on a farm there and some of the noises surrounding us remind me of that. We hear roosters crowing at all hours of the day and night. There is also a constant of the birds singing, and often the sound of rain. We hear the cicadas singing off and on in the dense rainforest behind our house and the tree frogs distinct ping noise at night. A sound that is unique to this area is the truck driving around selling eggs. When I first heard this I thought to myself ‘Is that an Ice Cream truck?’.
Shower Lizards and Flashlight Finds
The kids found this lizard in their shower and thought it was so funny. So much better than my shower visitor! Alexis and I also had an adventure capturing a lizard on our own while the boys were on their night hike! We also saw one on the wall via flashlight on the night the electricity went out.

The Little Things About This House
From all the birds in the trees to coffee on this little patio. There are a lot of little things we will miss about our first home away from home. Braxton will miss the freedom he has to step out our door and discover new creatures. We will miss the friendly neighbors saying ‘hola’ and ‘buenas’ as we walk by on our way to town. The kids will miss the friendly cats.

We are all somewhat sad to leave this little casa and slow living location, but are looking forward to exploring the pacific coast of Costa Rica. The three and half hour shuttle ride on winding roads doesn’t sound great, but we can do hard things!

Can’t believe your first stop is already wrapping up, feels like you just left CO! Love following along, can’t wait to read about the next chapter!
This is Lincoln. I thought the lizard chase was cool and I liked the staircase in your casa.
Can we schedule a Google Meet soon? Maybe after you get settled in your new casa 😊
Jill, I miss you so much but I love hearing about your adventure! It’s so amazing! 🤗
